I use this super strong sticky cordage to tighten the decks and stitch on the coaming during the kayak skinning process. We sell this in harder-to-find 1/4 pound put-ups so you don't have to buy a giant roll.

You only need about 30 yards per kayak, so one spool will get you through about five boats, but it's also just great cordage to have around the house or around camp. Rot-proof, holds knots well.
